Stunning Whale Shark Photos

Have you seen this?

This diver looks like he is about to be eaten by a massive whale shark as it fed on plankton off Isla Mujeres, Mexico. These stunning photos were taken by Mauricio Handler during a feeding session where more than 600 whale sharks gathered to feed on tuna spawn.

So, the question is....

if you had an opportunity like this, would you snorkel or dive near 600 of these very large creatures? I love adventure, but I'm not so sure I would attempt this, plus I kinda suck at swimming.

p.s. you have one more day to enter the giveaway, and tomorrow, I'll post the weekend max list.

  1. Great shots! I'd be apprehensive, but I'd definitley go for it! Swimming with whales is on my bucket list!

  2. A big No! I am all for staying over water. Am a bit of a sissy, though. Adventure to me is trying a new cuisine for dinner.

  3. Eep! I snorkled on the Great Barrier Reef and there was a reef shark swimming around and I was fine. But one of those things? I don't think I'd be able to stay in the water with that!

  4. Oh my goodness!! this is crazy! I would NOT do it. I'm so easily freaked out by waterlife :)

BUT I say that - and somehow my husband got me to go do this stingray excursion on our honeymoon. Which was beyond scary! Looking back I'm glad I did it though - great memories.

  5. No way!!! I think I would have a panic attack if I were diving near those giant whales. And nightmares about being Jonah (swallowed by a whale...).

  8. Gah, this made my tummy hurt a little. I'm not one for water animals, I tend to pass out at the aquarium. That being said, these guys are kinda cute, and huge! Don't know if I'd have the guts, or the ability to keep from passing out. Which is the last thing you'd want to do.

  10. As gentle as these whale sharks are, you would have to drag me kicking and screaming into the water. So terrifying!!
