How to Deal with the Post Holiday Blues

Post Holiday BLUES

I know I've been really light on posts lately. I' m sorry. I have no excuses...well, not any good ones anyways. I'm just having a hard time getting back into the routine of things after the Christmas holidays.

Are any of you experiencing anything similar?

My goal this month - not this week (cause' I know it won't happen) is to try to get myself into a routine where I will have time to learn Italian, write regular posts on my blog, work on my art and drawings and still have time for a life. Did I forget to mention my sad little guitar who is lacking a whole lot of lovin'?

Is it possible to do?
I really hope so.

I've tried writing to do lists, writing in my calendar, writing on my online calendar, writing on post it notes, setting a timer for tasks, setting my alarm to get up super early (which I  turn off  and dive back under the covers). None of which have been successful.

How are you dealing with the post Christmas Holiday blues?
Any tips on scheduling a routine and sticking to it?
Your experiences would definitely be appreciated.

  1. I know the holiday post blues can get bad. I recommend walking or some type of exercise. That helps the release endorphins in your brain, and make you feel better. The only thing is you need to jump start it. Whatever you liked to do before, try it again, but only one thing per day for a couple of days. Then if you feel good, increase it. If you start off big, you might burn out.
Be kind to yourself. If you want to take an afternoon nap, do it. Don't argue with yourself; it'll serve no purpose. We all get the blues. Stay at peace with yourself!

  3. Oh I completely know how you feel. It's impossible to do it all, you need to just accept that I think.... you can't possible cook, blog, do art, etc. every day.... I say pick one extra "fun" activity a day, and do it for an hour. But it has to be fun, not a chore. When blogging becomes a chore, I give myself a break.

  4. i know what you mean. the first two weeks after new year's, i seriously didn't want to do anything. i guess it's like a "holiday hangover". i slowly got back into my daily routine by writing down things i have to do and actually did them. it was hard, but it's possible. :D

  6. Welcome back!
Yes, I struggle too. It's curious how the blog casts such a spell on me when I am in my usual routine and how I completely drift away when having had a break.. :)

Hope you had a lovely break and that Xmas/New Year were relaxing and fun.

Thanks for your sweet comment just now.

  11. I've been fairing rather well post X'mas except all the weddings this season which keep hampering my routine. I hope you get back to blogging regularly soon...I miss not seeing you around often in the blogosphere! :)

  12. Oh my goodness! I love this post of yours! I wouldn't exactly say Post Holiday BLUES, but calling this life in general. There is never enough hours in a day to finish everything. I feel almost the same as you! I'm trying to get myself back into the routine of learning/speaking Chinese and French. I'm taking classes once a week. I'm trying to blog as often as I can, more than last year and every time inspiration comes to me. I want to do art and learn how to do digital art. I'm trying to balance practicing the guitar as well. How many years of guitar have you played and what style? I'm writing in my planner and on my iCalendar. I have Post-Its and mornings are tough. I never get up in time and always seem to be running 5-10 min. late. We are very much alike. I wish I had a solution or words of advice to say. All I'm trying to do is use the weekends to hopefully catch up on life and still have time to do everything.

  14. Hi Reese!
I know how you feel. I've just been trying to make myself be motivated and just do things. I wish I had a good formula, but forcing myself is the only way right now. Hopefully February is more inspiring!

  16. Sometime there is just not enought time - and it's allright! This week I have had so much work that I haven't had any time to blog or even read my favorite blogs but one can't always get around to do everything either. (At least that is what I tell myself!)

Have a happy relaxing weekend :)

  18. You're all absolute SWEETIES for leaving such encouraging and supporting comments! I find so much encouragement from you. You are all wonderful WOMEN!

I haven't found a routine yet, but I'm trying to have a sunnier attitude about it all. I think it's also hard because I work opposite hours that most people do. I have to start revving up to teach at 4 until 10pm, so my energy tends to start slow and peak at weird times.

A BIG WARM HUG TO YOU ALL!
