Lecce in Pictures, Italy - Beauty of the Boot

italy is famous for its renaissance and fashionable cities - rome, venice, florence, milan, even naples make people stop, smile and even swoon at the memories
they have of trips gone by and the food they've tasted.
although, one city that never seems to be on anyone's lips is lecce

lecce is the beautiful, neglected city of the south, not by locals, but by tourists.
perhaps that's a good thing as many of these italian cities are generally overrun with tourists most days of the year. it's a nice change to leisurely walk through the streets without jostling through a crowd of people and admire the architecture of the baroque period and really absorb the splendour of a city filled with so much history and culture.
only pictures can show you this enchanting city.
join me as we walk through the lovely passageways of lecce through pictures that i took recently.
maybe you'll become just as besotted as i am with this exquisite place.
[i will add more photos in another post]

[i was fortunate to be here on the same day that amnesty international was
campaigning to stop violence against women]

'as long as girls and women are valued less, fed less, fed last, overworked, underpaid, not schooled and subjected to violence....the potential of the human family to create a peaceful, prosperous world will not be realised.'
- hilary clinton, the UN fourth world conference on women, 1995

  1. I visited Lecce a few years ago, and it's a lovely town. It's far down south and most tourists don't go much further down than Naples and the Amalfi coast.

Love your photos of the red shoes. I didn't know about that idea, but it is a very striking visual!

  2. If ever I make it to Italy one day I'd love to visit Lecce. I'm not fond of places teaming with tourists.
